Mr. Modi why are you silent on rape ? Is it not your election agenda ?

Our most charismatic Prime-minister Mr.Modi , ” when will you get some time to address these ill fated rape victims. Yes ! we can understand that you are sincerely busy for development of India . But then ,are we not Indians ? “.

Just imagine nearly 68,000 rape cases were registered across the country during 2009-11 but only 16,000 rapists were sentenced to prison, presenting a dismal picture of conviction of sexual offenders. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 24,206 rape cases were registered in India in 2011 but only 5,724 people were convicted for the crime.

A total of 21,397 rape cases were registered in 2009 but only 5,316 persons could be convicted. The highest number of rape cases — 9,539 — were registered in Madhya Pradesh between 2009-11 but only 2,986 persons were convicted during the period.

The poor rate of conviction is primarily due to prosecution’s inability to gather enough evidence against the accused following inadequate police investigation,” a Home Ministry official said.

Recently a class 9 student gangraped in car in west Delhi. The victim, a student of class 9 in a government school, was known to one of the accused identified as Sachin who lived in the same locality where she lived with her parents, police said on Monday. The girl was abducted by Sachin and his two friends in a car while she was going to school on Saturday morning, said a senior police officer.

The three accused took the girl to a secluded plot in Ranhola area where two of them gangraped her inside the car, he said. The victim was later dumped near her house after several hours in the night. When the victim returned back she narrated her ordeal to her mother. Later, she was taken to the Ranhola police station where a case of abduction and gangrape under relevant Sections of IPC and POCSO Act has been registered, said the officer.

Two of the three accused have been detained, he added. The girl alleged that the accused filmed the act and threatened to put the video on social sites if she complained against them, the police said.
