That will save you really from a disaster. Efforts to successfully prevent the disease may well require a better understanding of these processes near middle age. So are there any early signs that the disease throw up?

In the mean time develop a habit of going to a gym and  briskly walking for 20 or 25 minutes several times a week . A dose of exercise  may help to keep our brains sharp as the years pass.

In India there are more than 50 lakh people suffering from dementia, of which nearly 80 percent have Alzheimer’s. According to doctors, this number is expected to double by 2030.

It starts with seemingly simple instances of forgetfulness — not remembering where the house keys were, or difficulty in recalling the names of some relatives. But over time when one starts asking the same questions over and over again, and sometimes forgets the meal just an hour back, doctor confirms it as Alzheimer’s Disease (AD).

AD is the most common type of dementia, in which the mental ability of a person declines and gradually reaches such a stage that it becomes difficult for them to lead a normal life. It is an incurable disease with a long and progressive course.

Karl Fernandes, Professor at University of Montreal in Canada found abnormal accumulations of fat droplets in the brain may cause and accelerate the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. This  suggests  that these abnormal fat deposits could be a trigger for the disease.

When the researchers examined the brains of nine patients who died from Alzheimer’s disease, they found significantly more fat droplets compared to five healthy brains. These fatty acids are produced by the brain, that they build up slowly with normal ageing. These fat deposits are Triglycerides enriched with specific fatty acids, which can also be found in animal fats and vegetable oils.

Indian-origin scientist finds key to early Alzheimer’s diagnosis. According to an Indian-origin scientists, errors on memory and thinking tests may signal Alzheimer’s up to 18 years before the disease can be diagnosed.

Briskly walking for 20 or 25 minutes several times aweek may help to keep our brains sharp as the years pass, says Gretchen Reynolds

A small amount of exercise may improve our ability to think as we age, but more may not be better. We all know that working out is good for us. But how much or how little exercise is needed for the brain has remained unclear.

But to surprise all it is found that , people exercising for 75 minutes a week were somewhat more fit; those exercising for 150 minutes a week were fitter still; and those walking for 225 minutes a week were the most fit of all.

In general, the researchers found, most of the exercisers showed improvements in their thinking skills, especially in their ability to control their attention and to create visual maps of spaces in their heads, two aspects of cognition that are known to decline with age.
