Women’s Rights Activists Revolts : Afghanistan

By Ani Menon : Kabul : An Afghan woman who was beaten to death by a mob was buried in Kabul on Sunday (March 22nd). In an unprecedented move, her coffin was carried by women’s rights activists. The mob of men beat 27-year-old Farkhunda before throwing her body off a roof, running over it with a car, setting it on fire and throwing it into a river near a well-known mosque.

Hundreds of people gathered in northern Kabul for the funeral of 27-year-old Farkhunda, who like many Afghans is known by only one name.
