Virat Kohli wants young Prithvi Shaw to be given some space. He should be allowed to grow as a cricketer instead of being compared with greats like Virender Sehwag or Sachin.
Even Gautam Gambhir, the other day, categorically mentioned that even though Prithvi Shaw played a fantastic knock in his debut Test. But the 18-year old should not be rushed into comparisons. He still has a long way to go.
After final Test against the West Indies in Hyderabad, Kohli said :
“You need to give a youngster some space to grow”.
“This guy is supremely talented and he has got great ability as everyone”.
“We definitely think he has it in him to play at the highest level. And he can repeat what he did in the first game”.
“He is a very keen learner, a really sharp guy. He understands situations well and fast”.
“We are all very happy for him.”
“We shouldn’t put him in a place where he feels pressure of any kind”.
” Let him enjoy his cricket and slowly grow into a player”.
Prithvi Pankaj Shaw was born on 9 November 1999 in Virar, Maharashtra, India. When he was just 3, his father enrolled him in the cricket academy in Virar, Maharashtra.
A right-hand, opening batsman, whose abilities as a cricketing prodigy have led to repeated comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar. He made his first international appearance on 4 October 2018 and became the second-youngest Indian after Tendulkar to make a Test century and the youngest Indian to do on Test debut.
Shaw was a central figure in the documentary film Beyond All Boundaries. He was twice selected to travel to England to further his cricketing education.
Shaw has earned a deal worth Rs 36 lakh with SG, which has been endorsed by stalwarts like Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag in the past.
He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the semi-finals of the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy on 1 January 2017. He scored a century in the second innings and was man of the match. He earned another distinction by scoring a century in his debut match of the Duleep Trophy and equalled the record held by Sachin Tendulkar.
